General Update

Crikey its been busy, so here is a quick update, and some stuff about Programming Language Speed

Yes I knows, I needs to update my blog more.

I’ve been pretty busy working over at Stage 1 these past couple of weeks, I had to hack the Congo, the theatres Lighting desk, to teach it how to talk to Stage’s new ETC 1 Port Nodes. The Congo runs Windows XP, and I know a few backdoors 🙂

I was reading Binary Hex’s Post on Language Speeds today, and was suprised at the Slow-ness of Ruby, and indeed of Perl, I used to program Perl, but response speed times are not something I tend to notice for languages, I worry mroe about Web Server response and loading times.

I’ve been neglecting AptitudeCMS, just through sheer business.

Hell I’m supposed to be at Work right now, just waiting in LSRfm.com Offices for my Co-Worker to arrive. Gotta love Flexitime!

SRA wise, I need to build an online sign up form for the National Student Radio Chart, which I need to start organising. Broadcast and Freshers week dates are getting close.

Not forgetting the upcoming SRA Training Day in Birmigham on the 12th, that should be good.

The day after that (13th) I have my first non union techie shift, down at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds City Center, should be good and promises to lead to other things one hopes, we shall see.

Its all go here, just waiting for some stuff from other people and then time to kick into high gear!

Anywho I must go, time to go to work, will remember to post soon!

So its been a while

The end and a Beginning

GSoC 2009 is over.

Got SVN running (stupid thing I know), so know have committed my work to the AptitudeCMS Repo. Still some mintor bits to work out, but the XML/ATOM output via Zend Feed is working, adding and editing items work, haven’t quite figured out item deletion yet.

Not sure how much time one will have during term time to remain involved but we shall see.

Not tho I have picked up a Job at Stage One, the PCI department of Leeds University.

Spent most of the day hacking the Congo, the Stage1 Lighting Desk, to work with the new network nodes. Rather good fun!

Anyway Freshers week is coming, which means lots of shifts at work, which will be fun but busy, we shall see.

Hopefully I will remember to write my blog some more too!

When Friends Ditch You

Quick Weekend Summary

There I was, all packed up and ready to go to Silverstone, to help a friend run a tent.

Phone them up, rang, and rang, to voicemail, left a voicemail.

Phoned the following day, same, and then phoned on Friday, still no answer.

So I didn’t go to Silverstone in the end, nice of a friend to actually say your not going, except they didn’t.

Let alone, the fact I told a known BBC Sports Reporter I was going, and they were going to come say hello, now I look like an Idiot.

In the end I got quite a lot done on 360gaming [dot] net, it now has working profiles and Windows Live Authentication, but now I must get back to my GSoC Project, I’m finally getting my head round the file structure for plugins, and will be teaching my new boss how to program a Pearl 2004 soon too.

Also I discovered I like Whiskey.

Xbox 360 E3 2009

I got assailed with a “Are the Rumours True”, so I click thru and find Xbox.com will be broadcasting the Microsoft/Xbox 360 E3 Press conference LIVE! So F**k it tune in at 6:30pm BST.

So there I was, checking my emails, in pops the usual Xbox 360 Newsletter, for once I decided to read it, “Tonight all will be revealed”

I got assailed with a “Are the Rumours True”, so I click thru and find Xbox.com will be broadcasting the Microsoft/Xbox 360 E3 Press conference LIVE! So F**k it tune in at 6:30pm BST.

Rock Band meh, Beatles on Stage ++

(I missed the Natal Stuff, but will check that out later via XboxLive Dashboard)

Tony Hawx and Forza 3, Tony Hawx new Controller, (its a Skateboard), Forza Motorosport 3 (full title), has a new set of amazing physics, as well as the ability to create Hi-Def films in game (Bungie stylee almost?).

Then comes the Whistle Whoosh sound, its Crackdown 2, about time they made a sequel, I don’t have 100% completion on Crackdown, but have finished the story, an epic game, looking forward to the sequel.

Then Splinter Cell (no), but does look good.

Then on stage comes Tom Statten, from Bungie….

As expected Halo ODST is shown, with working live demo, it looks EPIC, and not forgetting the return of the Halo1 Style Pistol!

Then, “we have been working on a super secet project”………

HALO REACH!!!

And then, we find out you get a Beta Multiplayer invite with Halo ODST!

EPIC.

At that point I had to go to work, running Fruity on a Monday, with S Club (3) and Sash, throughly enjoyed Sash! EPIC-NESS apologies to the Bar Staff however, I over strobed….

Anywho, so I get home, wack Burnout Paradise in (arrived yesterday), started downloading the update (their update system is different to other games, and twas nearly a Gig in size), so I thought I would just check the E3 panel on the dashboard, where I find Last.fm, Twitter, and Facebook are coming to Xbox360 (share achievements, pictures etc), as shown by the rather fine Felicia Day, of The Guild.

All that and SkyTV is coming to my Xbox.

Excuse me I need to go do some work now to pay for all these new things I has to buy…..

Summer of Code is on, Horace Andy is off and You Do Talk About Barcamp

EPIC REVIEW OF THE WEEK

So I have finally recovered from the epic weekend that was Fruity, Tidy, and Slamdunk as well as Slam Dunk prep. when not working.

In the end Arrived at work at 11am Saturday (Tidy day) and left 3am Monday (after Slamdunk after Party), an epic Weekend.

Throughly enjoyed some of the music as well, I was running lights using Chamsys (MagicQ) on the Vans Stage, aka The Riley Smith Hall, no drinks of any kind thank you!

Best thing about my MagicQ was the remote desktop into the PC, running lights off my phone and netbook was good fun.

So The Slackers and King Blues were enjoyed, but AntiFlag were far too policitical (I now know what a Circle Pit is too).

So Today is day 4 of Google Summer of Code, so far done nothing for it. I lost Monday to sleeping (eventually out of bed by 5pm) Tuesday was clear the theatre day, Wednesday was getting office back in order, and today is Thursday, supposed to be doing the Horace Andy gig, lighting wise, however its been Cancelled.

So that takes us to, what am I going to do today, and Friday. Lets plan Summer of Code work, I’m working for GeekLog on a Syndication API, details to follow.

That then takes us to the Weekend, which is BarCamp Leeds 2009, part of Leeds Web Festival 2009. Should be good fun, at least is was last time, last years BarCamp let me discover geekery in Leeds, which has led to loads of new friends. And lots of werewolf playing.

So look out for lots and lots of Twittering this weekend on that.

Also I jsut remembered its my Boss’es leaving do on Friday so off to Grease Fruity, its  going to be EPIC!

And the Fruity dancers are coming as Pink Ladies too.
