Live at Leeds 2010

Live at Leeds, is an event celebrating Music, that comes from or is based in Leeds, so as many bands and Leeds venues as possible get involved, from The Met to the Elbow Rooms, and the Cockpit to the Nation of Shopkeepers.

Live at Leeds has a diverse range of bands which often finds people travelling from one side of leeds to another to see specific bands or is some cases, picking a handful of venues and seeing most of the bands, (Leeds Uni is obviously easy since three venues in a small area, with the met just down the road too).

And this year Leeds Uni is offering up its three venues, Mine, Stylus and the Refectory, to the Bands of Leeds.

I’m currently sat in Stylus with Holy State on stage, having just had a break post doing the lighting for Lightspeed Champion. Quite good fun! Will be lighting Loops Haunt next, which from the technical specs sounds like an interesting Synth based DJ, since he brings his own laptop and just needs a pair of stereo audio channels from us.

Stylus is also hosting the Aftershow party which is good for the Union, and hopefully good for Live at Leeds too this year!

Time to go… 🙂

GSoC, WordPress and ME!

So I have been accepted onto GSoC for another year!

This year I am working on a Bugtracker, using WordPress as a base, probably working on top of WordPress 3, need to discuss this with my mentor, but I’ve not been well the last couple of days, which was hell for the Station Manager Presentations (well done to @RichLegate btw), and thus I didn’t go to Plasa, tho I am feeling better now 🙂 Hurrah!

Handed in my coursework/dissertation this afternoon!

Now just a Motion Graphics video to finish, and a essay to write.

Not forgetting a dissertation presentation….. Fun

Its Crunch Time

So this week is going to be one of the busiest weeks, I will have had in a long time.

Finishing touches to my Project 2 Project: http://360gaming.net/, deployed that last Monday, just need to finish testing the game tracker/ranking system and thats all done.
Thats due on Wednesday! Crikey.

It’s also Leeds University Unions@LeedsUniUnion, Celebrate Week, where LUU celebrates its member led Societies, culminating in The Riley’s, an awards ceremony!

LSRfm.com (@LSRfm_com) is up for 3 awards:

  • Best Publicity
  • Best Event, for Big Tidy Up, (live coverage from Rich Legates House)
  • Best Society

So, its always good to be nominated, since the nominations are Crowd Sourced from LUU Members.

I’m also a second time nominee for LUU Lifetime Achievement award, (nominated three years ago when they thought I was leaving).

I’m also working a hell of a lot this week.

  • Metropolis on Thursday
  • Fruity (Hollywood) on Friday
  • Live at Leeds on Saturday all day!
  • Damnation on Sunday all day!

Which then takes us to Monday 3rd of May, which is May Day Bank Holiday. Which means the union is closed, so LSRfm.com is broadcasting from my House for the day.
It’s the day of Halo Reach’s Beta toooooo! Hurrah!

Should be good fun, hopefully it will be Sunny too!

That then takes us to next week, with a double deadline for motion graphics and New Media Strategies and Futures on the 6th of May.

Then thats it the end of my degree…. Shit….

Oh and today I find out if I am doing GSoC 2010 (Google Summer of Code)

And tomorrow is The LSRfm.com Station Manager Job Presentations and Interviews, which I have applied for.

And tomorrow and Wednesday is PLASA Leeds, an Events Trade Show and mini conference, which should be good to make some industry contacts and see whats going on, in the World of Live events….

Its gonna be messy!

Twitter @Anywhere, and the End of Halo 2

So there I was last night, watching Justin.tv. a couple of streams, a Live Halo 2 stream and live coverage of Chirp, the Twitter Developers Conference.

My net was actually behaving for once, watching two Justin.TV streams, sending and receiving a Skype video chat, as well as uploading tracks to the LSRfm.com Jukebox.

Today is the final day of Xbox Live existing for Original Xbox and Original Xbox Games, most predominately Halo 2, what this means is that you can still play the game locally, but you can’t go online via Xbox Live and play match making/custom games. They are going to turn those servers over to the Xbox 360 Network. Bungie News article about the end of Halo 2

So, no more Halo2, unless you’re a Xbox KAI user for example or LAN PARTY!!!!

I have been up all night and as of 9am BST (+1) this morning, the servers are still on, so get you’re Halo 2 on!

Back to Twitter/Chirp, Twitter has launched their new Developers website, which essentially brings together the API documentation, the Oauth application registration, and API status pages to a single location.

Twitter also spoke about @Anywhere which essentially allows you to integrate some aspects of Twitter into your website, thru the use of a single javascript call.

You can allow users to tweet from your website, automatically convert any @username to the new hovercards. See the example from @abraham on (His Site).

And then allow users to follow you, without bouncing to twitter, other than a popup to authenticate you to twitter and allow the Anywhere App access.

Check Anywhere out at http://dev.twitter.com/anywhere/ and checkout what The Guardian are doing with it.

On a unrelated point, when you login to Justin.TV via twitter, it is automatically posts anything you put in the video chat box, to your twitter account, along with links to what you are watching, bit of a spam fest, if you a) don’t know about it and b) forget to turn it off. But it led to this: Read and LOL

ooooh a JPG, #GSoC2010 for the Visually Oriented

oooh a JPG!

So there I was doing nothing constructive, watching some South Park. Then checking the new LSRfm.com Ustream feed, found the jukebox had failed over, bloody Flash leaking like a whore. So went to remote into my Laptop which is running everything whilst we are offline for Easter. It works thru a high numbered port for VNC access, the only problem is the port is open on my firewall, but not on the University Firewall, only taken me a day and a half to realise this.

So fixed that, and went to IRC to loiter for a bit, and some in the #GSoC channel, did a !timeline, which makes the bot output links to the timeline. Someone has made (in the last few days) a nice Graphical Timeline: I was ooooh a JPG!

This should be how my summer goes, if I get accepted 🙂
